BEAUTIFUL LOSERS: SIDE A

h2the released a side album as a taste of his instrumental space. Dubbed An Album of Lo-Fi Songs That Will Never Trend (On Spotify), it was a poem written by the artist with the title of each track making up the whole poem and album, which premiered in his live stream festival Lo-Freq Fest. The festival was featured in Billboard and shared around the globe enough times to trend. Now comes the opposite sort of album. One full of trend-worthy bangers, including “Gotta Let You Go” featuring Flavia, which premiered on MTV’s Teen Mom. The album, which is his official debut, is titled “Beautiful Losers”. Originally setting out to brand himself as a synth artist visually, aesthetically, and sonically, he found the songs being produced kept leaning heavier and heavier into pop collaborations as he kept producing with artists such as R E L and REV-ENG (Jaden, Willow).

Side A of Beautiful Losers finishes off with two covers which are unique, as they are covers in name only, rather than sonically. The first, Happiness is a Warm Gun, featuring regular collaborator and vocalist/producer Sounten, teases h2the’s upcoming Beatles project, which takes a selection of well-loved Beatles songs and breathes a new and different life into them, as the melodies float over infectious hip hop rhythm. To complement the Beatles tracks, he takes on Dolly Parton’s “Here We Go Again” as a stripped down, introspective, alt-synth beat featuring the unforgettable vocals of Willow Stephens. An album of lo-fi songs that will never trend was meant to represent not what is, but what could have been.

AN ALBUM OF LO-FI SONGS THAT WILL NEVER TREND

Inspired by the idea of an acrostic, h2the’s upcoming album is a literal poem written by the artist, with each track making up the whole. The songs play as a soundtrack to the subconscious. Made up of dreamlike soundscapes with dialogue sampled in various places throughout the experience. Each track takes the listener further into the emotional space of the artist. Unlike albums mostly strung together with singles, this album is meant to be listened to as a whole.

Bonhom

LOVE IS WAR

Some of the best art has come from isolation, so as we quarantine ourselves during this strange and trying time, artists like Bonhom, made up of James Coleman (Sirken) and Diwon (who also produces as h2the) are using the adversity to create positivity. In the last week they have put the final touches on their third album, “Love Is War”.

The album has a post apocalyptic feel to it with hints of the 90’s throughout. The album art was done by Diwon’s 9 year old son, Dovi Safar. Safar is in 3rd grade, and has a keen eye for composition and color with influences from street art, skating, and fashion. He brought his signature style to the cover which plays off Bonhom’s first album cover, “Sex War”, which centers on a Television set.

“80s synths and h2the’s signature layered beats come together in a sampling of epicness, appropriately dubbed, Taste Of The” – Guy Emanuel

For h2the’s first release he drops a beat tape that is literally only available on cassette. Forcing fans to get out of their comfort zones, digest the music, and work a bit more heavily seems to be his brand’s raison d’être. In order for people other than analog enthusiasts to hear it, there is a digital-only teaser of the mixtape, which is its own release and is not simply a few moments from the mixtape.

DIWON

NEW GAME

* Diwon’s debut solo LP, New Game is a breakneck journey through the strange loops of his unique artistic process, New Game finds Diwon working with artists from the hip-hop underground such as Open Mike Eagle, Tim Fite and MC Paul Barman, as well as indie sirens like Liza. Tracks are artfully built from the ground up using funky-drummer style percussion or bass-heavy West Coast production and tastefully laced with everything from crunchy psychedelic guitars to Middle Eastern melisma. Still others, like the title track “New Game”, featuring Liza, spike the punch with a strong dose of ice-cold synthesizers to swoon the nonstop Eurotrash party crowd to bed. It’s the producer as auteur, every track taking you through the emotional space of the artist, like Kanye or Godard.

SIRKEN

HOW I (H2THE & REV-ENG REMIX)

“How I” began as as instrumental after Sirken watched a plethora of 80’s films (Cocktail, Lost Boys etc) that influenced a dark and gloomy deep sub synth feel, and while being gloomy at the time, he entitled the original song “This Is How I Feel.” Belle Jewel shuffled through a myriad of Sirken’s tracks, taking a liking to “This Is How I Feel.” They held a couple of sessions where melodies and lyrics were finalized, and what naturally came out from her was exactly what the track needed; a deep sense of desire for purpose. h2the liked what he heard, but wanted to make it bigger and more dynamic, so he re-worked it for the Alt Version (a.k.a. Remix) with REV-ENG. The collaboration came together when h2the reached out to James Chul Rim (REV-ENG) after hearing Willow’s “Wait A Minute”, which he produced, on Spotify. He was blown away by the style and the two connected on their own sonic synergies. “How I” combines Belle’s ethereal voice and retro-inspired vocal style, with a mix of soul, dream-pop, and hip-hop sonics.

Y-LOVE & DIWON

ROCK LIKE ME (FT. DOODLEBUG FROM DIGABLE PLANETS

Y-Love and Diwon are back with one of their hottest single yet, this one featuring the legendary Doodlebug of Digable Planets. These past few years have been an intense journey for Y-Love, since his last release, also produced by Diwon, he’s lived on both coasts, and been involved with social justice movements including Occupy Wall Street, #blacklivesmatter and the movement for LGBT equality. Y-Love’s Judaism has evolved – a few times from Ultra—Chassidic to ex-ultra-Orthodox, all throughout, he remains as proud and connected as ever. These past few months have seen American nightmares come to life, and the dystopian political landscape has energized artists (as all oppressive times do) to create and spread messages of hope and solidarity, and Y-Love and Diwon are no exception. We still want to have fun and party and have positive messages and meaning in our music, though, and with this rebrand and the release of Y-Love’s new single, Rock Like Me, is just that – a fun and inspiring collaboration with the legendary Doodlebug of Digable Planets to make everyone feel uplifted and get moving…While we get down to Tikkun Olam, work at making this world a better place. credits

H2THE & FLAVIA

GOTTA LET YOU GO

The latest track by h2the and Flavia, though on first listen, may sound like the lyrics of a love and break up song, take these issues head on. While the beat and vocals are upbeat, beautiful and bangin’, the theme of it delves much deeper. We all know what it’s like to hit rock bottom. Sometimes we’re so deep down the rabbit hole that we can’t even “see the tunnel ’til the lights come on”. Mental illness, and addiction aren’t widely understood in society. It often feels like people struggling with these issues have to deal with it alone. We wanted to write a song that flipped the perspective for someone struggling with these issues. With lyrics like, “I was floating ’til it all came crashing to the floor…what a beautiful view”. Flavia paints the picture that sometimes crashing back to reality, grounding yourself, and starting fresh after rock bottom can be a really beautiful place to be. “Gotta Let You Go”, speaks to the listeners of relationships gone bad, but for the listeners dealing with mental health and addiction issues, it strikes a chord with lyrics like, “Turn off the lights, can’t go outside, board up the windows to my mind, take a step back, won’t see the tunnel till the lights come on, been holding on to you for so long, gotta let you go, gotta let you go, thought it was love, but I was so wrong, gotta let you go, least now I know”.

DJ Booth called Diwon a “beatmaking buzzsmith,” and with the release of his instrumental album “Pre-Game” he keeps the focus on just that, taking you into his world of instrumental madness.

“With old school producers like J Dilla, to new school beat makers like Flying Lotus, we can compare Diwon to some of the best in the game, but we feel like he has the sound that is making a name and following of it’s own.
